NOCSAE-certified helmet with a proper fit is the most important piece of equipment. Must fit snugly — no more than two fingers between eyebrow and facemask bottom.
Many leagues provide helmets. Confirm before purchasing — proper fitting by a certified fitter matters more than brand.
Sized by chest measurement, not age. Should cover the shoulder point and AC joint fully. Skill position pads run smaller for mobility; lineman pads run larger.
Required for all tackle and most flag leagues. A properly fitted boil-and-bite guard protects teeth and reduces concussion risk. Replace annually.
Compression shorts with integrated pad pockets for thigh, hip, and tailbone pads. Required in most tackle leagues. Some come with pads included; others sell pads separately.
Worn over the girdle for game days. Typically white with pad pockets already sewn in. Most leagues issue game pants — these are primarily for practice use.
A large duffel capable of fitting helmet, pads, cleats, and clothes. Look for 40+ liter capacity with reinforced base and multiple external pockets.
Sticky-palm receiver gloves dramatically improve catching ability in youth players. Not always required but incredibly effective. Avoid gloves with too much padding.
PeeWee size (ages 6–9), Junior size (10–12), or Youth size (12–14). Rubber composite for outdoor use. Great for throwing in the yard.
Streak-free cleaner and anti-fog solution to keep helmet visors clear of rain droplets, fingerprints, and breath condensation.
Fleece-lined belt pouch with internal packet pockets to keep hands dry and warm during late-season cold weather games.
