Official Wording

A game consists of nine innings. Each team gets three outs per half-inning. The home team bats in the bottom half; the visiting team bats in the top half.

Parent Translation

Think of it as 18 mini-rounds. Your kid's team bats in the bottom of each inning (if home) or the top (if away). Three outs and the other team gets their turn. Youth games are often shortened to 5 or 6 innings, or played with a time limit.
